Re-purposing a sporting goods store into a college mail center, administrative office, and commercial copy facility presented a challenge. The design balances an institutional presence while still respecting the retail character of busy Mass. Ave.
Treating the lobby walls as a theatrical backdrop for the activities inside visually extends the sidewalk beyond the plate glass façade. At night, the illuminated surfaces activate the sidewalk and the building takes its place among the shops and restaurants on this lively street. |
